Camper Design & Engineering Workshop

In January 2024 the Areté team was asked by Camper to come to the Camper HQ and host a presentation and workshop on the strength of a circular Design and Engineering process to Campers product creation teams. In attendance was all teams from Campers footwear program, from designers to engineers to pattern makers. The one day workshop started with a presentation from our founder Myles O’Meally on the strength of an internal circular design and engineering process within the product creation team of Camper. At the end of the presentation there was a Q&A between Myles and the Camper team.

Following the presentation we then broke in to a workshop. The Areté team created three fun product design and engineering challenges to the Camper team and they were given 2 hours to brain storm and create concepts aimed at solving the creative challenges presented. The challenges were created in a way that it would require the different skill sets across design, engineering and production to be in harmony. The three topics were:

1 – Reimagine a causal derby shoe, sneaker or a boot using the iconic Pelotas as a muse

2 – Reimagine the Peu Cami barefoot style as a circular, able to be disassembled, sustainable low cost footwear product

3 – Upcycle the waste from the manufacturing process of Camper footwear (fabric, leather, trimmings etc) by bringing it in to the creation process for new products to be used in Campers hotels and restaurant

At the end of the 2 hour workshop each time was asked to present their concept and findings to the rest of the team.

The objective being that all faculties of design, engineering and production had to work together to solve the challenge and create the concepts presented proving the benefit of this working process. Additionally any concepts or ideas formed could be the foundation for an inline concept moving forward.
